Synopsis
Augustus spent his life, alone, neglected and festering in his anger. He spends his time saving up to open a store, a halloween one – after all it’s his favourite holiday. Now, the shop is about to open, enter if you dare, horors await around every corner.
My Thoughts
This is the extreme horror I love fun, camp but very gruesome. K D Davies doesn’t hold back from the grossness of this novella, instead choosing to make it absurd and funny. The descriptions are very visercal and, unfortuntely for my brain, very easy to picture.
“When the paramedics attended to remove the bodies, they literally had to peel him from the sofa like Velcro, his skin flaying from his deceased sack of bones, like a dry hessian bag left in the dust,” – Page 8
The plot is simple and very fast paced. I’m a big fan of fast paced books, and you could easily read this in a day. THis would be perfect to read on Halloween. The plot takes a very funhouse horror structure, which I adore ever since I watched Saw II. There are references to other books and funny one liners, such as “Crabzilla entered the chat”, which made me laugh out loud.
The content creators were really fun to see. I know most of these creators (and the ones I didn’t I quickly followed) and it was fun to see them in there. The “fan service” (if you can call it that) was so niche, that even if you don’t know who ClaudiaRambles is, it doesn’t really matter, its fun all the same.
