My Thoughts
This was a really short but sweet story which made me cringe. If you are looking for something to help with your reading goal or looking for a quick read, this is perfect.
I have only read one other short story by MJ Mars, which was featured in the Depths of Darkness Anthology (you can read my review of here), and I knew from that that MJ Mars was not one to play around with body horror but this was far more gruesome than what I had read before. It takes a while to get to the extreme horror which was maybe why I was caught by surprise but once it started, I kept putting my kindle down in shock. This was wickedly dark and I loved it for it.
But whilst, the horror was gruesome this was also had a heart to it. I love how rats are part of the horror but aren’t seen as evil, because rats are very cute. The overall message of this was sweet and fit really well into the story and what it was going for.
