Synopsis
Ji-won’s life is turned upside down the day her dad leaves her family for another woman. Her mother falls her part, her younger sister still hopes and Ji-won is left to pick up the pieces.
When her mother brings home her new white boyfriend, Ji-won is skeptical. He’s condescending to Ji-won and her sister, oggles Asian waitresses and overstays his welcome in their small apartment. Ji-won becomes obsessed with his blue eyes, his sparkling blue eyes.
My Thoughts
I went into this with little knowledge of the plot, the vibe or even what Monika Kim is like as an author but I couldn’t been more impressed.
This has a beautiful sense of irony which I love. The wit is impeccable, Ji-won is both funny and relatbale in a strange sort of way. I don’t want to eat eyeballs, but I can understand certain actions she takes. Likewise, her relationship with her family is strained in a very true way. They spend lots of time together but they don’t talk.
